Follow the written paper format in the student syllabus. Use a 12-font, Times New

Roman, double-space throughout, with no extra spaces between paragraphs. Student will proofread for errors. The paper is due at the start of class on _______.

The requirement for this paper is approximately 5-7 pages including the title page and the Works Cited page. Bold, highlight, or underline important data. This paper is worth 100 points.  Student will lose 10 points for not following this format requirement.

This is a reflective/information paper. You will give personal examples and insight. Do NOT simply copy material from the textbook or internet. Please explain your opinions and insight to indicate that you understand the concepts and theories related to Sigmund Freud.

1.         Give a brief introduction and background of Sigmund Freud. What is your personal opinion of  him? How important do you believe he is to the field of psychology?    Be sure to explain your answer. In another paragraph explain psychoanalysis, free association, and defense mechanisms. Give a couple of examples of defense mechanisms.

2.         Explain Freud’s theory of personality which includes the Id, the Ego, and

the Superego.  Define each one and give an example by relating your life or an example of someone you know to each of the three (3) parts of personality. Explain this theory thoroughly; it should be approximately one to two pages long.

3.         Explain Freud’s Psychosexual Theory covered on pages 41 and 42. Give a brief overview of this theory and explain whether or not you think it is important and tell your opinion of it. 

4.         Information on Sigmund Freud is found on pp. 40-43, 67, and 70 of the textbook. Look at the examples of Freud’s theory of personality on Education Portal on the internet

for a better idea of the 3 parts of personality.

5.         Freud believed people operate through Defense Mechanisms. Explain this concept and give two or three examples of defense mechanisms you use. This is on page 41.

           

6.         Look at the Big Five personality characteristics on page 47 and explain each one

according to your personality. Tell which ones are your strengths and which ones you

may have weaknesses related to.

7.         Use the APA style for your title page and your Works Cited page. The paper is

written in a modified APA style. The main thing is to explain your opinion of Freud’s

two theories  and tell why you agree or disagree with the importance of them.
